Drain Cleaning AUSTRALIA — Cleaning a clogged channel drain
Bruce (Drain Cleaning AUSTRALIA @ YouTube) is at a channel drain that is severely clogged.
He begins by removing the grates cover the channel drain, and then uses the jetting hose to shoot some water into the blockage. This doesn’t seem to do much, though.
A trowel, and then a spade, are used to dislodge and break up the material. The hose is used again to wash the loose pieces down the drain. Since the dislodged clog is considered to be controlled waste, it has to be sent through the drain’s pipe where it will end up in a grease trap and eventually pumped away, instead of being removed and thrown into the garbage.
The channel drain’s output pipe eventually clogs up, and a plunging rod is used to clear it. More of the broken-up clog drains away, and the hose is used again to continue washing down more of the material. Since the channel is so thoroughly filled, it takes some time to wash it away.
Some disinfectant is poured through the channel, the hose is used some more, and then the plunger is needed once again to clear the drain’s pipe. More hosing is done to clean up the remaining material.
